I'm using MS Project to create a single timeline for all my Mac projects. MS Project is a great tool for quickly scheduling and planning projects. One of my favorite features is the ability to easily move, delete, and copy tasks (i.e. resources) around. Another useful feature is the ability to, in a single click, create a Gantt chart. With this tool, I can see all the stages of the project, easily drill down into specific tasks, and create a Gantt graph for that specific project.
A resource calendar tracks all qualified (i.e. "Scheduleable") resources -- that is, people who are certified or qualified to be on a project's team. I recommend using this data to start tracking every month the extent to which you hope the team will work on the project. Then as you go through the project's schedule, if you want to track how certain tasks are progressing through the project, you can easily view this data in a resource calendar, alongside your work-plan mesaages. This data is very valuable when it comes to planning for the availability of resources for future projects or when it comes time to repurpose project data for other new projects.
The worst thing about project managers is having to ask them to help with something. I can't tolerate the attitude "It's not my job." I will not stop asking. I will not stop asking you to do something. I will push you in the direction of "Do That Thing That I'm Recommending." You won't like my approach, but when one of your team's jobs is to be a natural service dog to your organization, you need to get over the idea that it can't be done, and get on with it. It is possible to constantly ask, insist, and explain why you need the project data you need, and how it will be useful to all users across the globe.
During your project scoping process, understand that not all roadblocks are roadblocks to your project. As you think more about the problem you are facing, adjust your vision to see what you can do instead. d2c66b5586
