For a pure 1080p TV, the aspect ratio is not necessarily pure 1080p, and this can throw off some of the formatting. However, for cine-specific screens, the format is the key selling point. The aspect ratio of 1.78 (16:9) is always pure 720p, so 127 lines of text would wrap around the screen horizontally (about 1.5 times, or 1.75:1). If the aspect ratio were different, say 1.86:1, the horizontal resolution would be slightly different for the same amount of vertical information (1,920 pixels for 1,920x1,080, but 1,926 pixels for 1,920x1,920). Similarly, on a 1.65:1 screen, only a bit more space is taken by the frame.
With some companies, they blur a little bit of the lines between the resolutions. Samsung has its own hybrid TV that offers both 1080p and 4k content as options; it'll use 4k for high framerate content or sporting events and 1080p for other content. You can find TVs with this type of functionality as well.
If you have a high framerate 1080p panel, you can expect it to be at least twice the resolution of a standard 1080p TV. In the case of some TVs, this means it has a vertical resolution of 912 lines (912x2160). If your TV panel is sharper than that, its 2,160 lines of resolution might instead be listed as 1,920x2,240 (and that would look similar to a 1.78:1 screen since most TVs use an aspect ratio of about 1.78:1). You can find TVs with this type of functionality. However, with most TVs, the difference between 1,920x2,160 and 1,920x2,240 actually isn't very big. If you're watching HDR content on these TVs, you can see the difference on content by comparing the HDR material on a standard 1080p or 4k TV to the same material played back on a TV with a higher framerate in a couple of different ways. d2c66b5586
